Helal Ahmed

Helal was called to the Bar in 2007. In the first instance, he worked in a London based firm specialising in Immigration, Asylum and Nationality. He cross-qualified as a Solicitor in 2010 working in Family Law. Over the past 9 years, he has worked predominantly in private and public law children matters; becoming a member of the Law Society Children Panel in 2013. He was a partner in John Barkers Solicitors for a number of years before returning to the Bar 2019.

Although Helal covered differing areas of law, his particular interest lies in Public Law Children matters and over the years he has acquired extensive experience in representing parents and children through their Guardians in care proceedings as well as ‘Gilick’ competent children. His experience and knowledge in Immigration law has on many occasions given him an edge in representing parties in care proceedings with complex immigration issues.

Over the years he has dealt with cases involving neglect, non-accidental injuries, sexual abuse, international relocation and forced marriage.

Since 2015 Helal has annually attended the University of Hull to deliver a workshop, on Court Skill’s and Practice alongside an experienced Guardian to the 3rd year BA and MA Social Work Students, highlighting the importance of ‘Evidence based social work practice’
