Lauren Gardner

Barrister

Lauren completed pupillage at Spire Barristers in September 2023.

 

Prior to starting pupillage, Lauren worked as a paralegal, advising those detained under the Mental Health Act and assisting with Court of Protection hearings. She was also a co-author of a law student textbook.

 

Having completed pupillage, Lauren continues to develop her practice across chambers’ areas of expertise. Across her practice, Lauren has been commended for her ability to build a rapport with clients and work with them to achieve the best outcome for their case.

 

Lauren is also a mentor with Young Bar Mentoring, helping students hoping to pursue a career at the Bar.

Public Law Children

In care proceedings, Lauren has appeared on behalf of the Local Authority, parents, and children at all stages of proceedings. She has experience in dealing with complex cases involving issues such as non-accidental injury, substance misuse, domestic abuse, neglect, and mental health difficulties. Lauren has also appeared in cases in the High Court involving the deprivation of liberty of children. Lauren understands the complexities and emotional challenges involved in care proceedings and strives to provide clear, empathetic guidance.

Private Law Children

Lauren regularly represents parents and family members in a range of hearings including appeals, multi-day findings of fact and final hearings. Lauren has dealt with cases involving issues such as parental alienation, sexual abuse and domestic abuse. Lauren provides effective representation while also emphasising conflict resolution between all parties to achieve the best outcomes for her client and for the children.

Domestic Abuse and Injunctions

Lauren has successfully represented both those seeking and opposing non-molestation orders and occupation orders. Lauren recognises the sensitivity of domestic abuse cases and approaches them with utmost care.

Court of Protection: Health and Welfare

In the Court of Protection, Lauren has experience acting for all parties including the Local Authority, the ICB and the Official Solicitor across deprivation of liberty cases, s21A and s16 applications. Lauren strives to guide her clients through complex Court of Protection matters with a compassionate and informed approach.

Mental Health and Community Care

Lauren represents patients at Mental Health Tribunals and has acted in Nearest Relative applications. Lauren approaches mental health cases with compassion and professionalism.

EDUCATION LAW

Lauren has a growing practice in education matters and has been instructed in Judicial Review claims and to represent clients before the First-tier Tribunal (Special Educational Needs and Disability) in appeals brought under the Children and Families Act 2014.

INQUESTS

Lauren has an interest in inquests and welcomes instruction in this area.
