Leigh joined Chambers in 2010 as Senior Clerk, bringing with him a wealth of experience, now with over three decades in clerking. He began his career in 1995 at Regent Chambers in Stoke-on-Trent, where he swiftly rose to the role of Senior Clerk by the age of just 21. From 1997 until his move to what has now become Spire Barristers, Leigh served as Senior Criminal Clerk at Deans Court Chambers in Manchester.
In his role at Chambers, Leigh leads the Clerking Team, overseeing the clerks’ room and ensuring the smooth administration of Chambers. His responsibilities span business and practice development, marketing, management, and the implementation of best practices. Leigh also plays a crucial role in Chambers’ governance, sitting on multiple committees, including the Management Committee.
Leigh’s dedication extends beyond Chambers to the wider legal community. He serves on the Management Committee of The Institute of Barristers’ Clerks (IBC), where he is a qualified member, and is actively involved in several other committees, including the Family Law Committee and the Pro Bono and Social Responsibility Committee at The Bar Council. In 2021, he was appointed to the Marketing Advisory Group at Advocate, contributing his insights to support pro bono services. That same year, his efforts were recognised at the Pro Bono Awards, where he was honoured with the Chambers Professional of the Year Award.
Leigh is also a member of the Legal Practice Management Association, and Lawyers for Children, reflecting his commitment to professional excellence and the broader legal community.
Outside of Chambers Leigh’s interests include live music, bodybuilding, rugby union (RFU Licensed Coach and RFU ELRA Rugby Referee), golf and football.
