Reagan Persaud‘s article is published in the April issue of Family Law Journal in the first of a three-part series.
Synopsis
Family law is an arena for everyone. Every kind of person has the potential to frequent these courts hoping for justice. It is therefore common place for users who have sight-impairment, mobility issues or who are affected by hearing loss to roam our justice halls hoping for the best outcome. Sadly, whilst we know that we must do our best for these individuals, the knowledge around what good practice could and should look like is not well-known. In this three-part series, we will explore what making the justice system accessible should look like. In part one of this series, we will focus on understanding how physical limitations can affect people, what simple language changes can be made to enable them to feel valued and what legal options may be available to offer support through the court process..
