Loretta Giaimo

Barrister

Loretta accepts instructions across all areas of family law with a primary focus on private law including family finance and children law. She also has a developing interest in surrogacy and private client.

She has represented parties in complex multi-day finding of fact hearings and final hearings involving allegations of domestic abuse including coercive and controlling behaviour, serious domestic violence and rape, allegations of emotional, physical and sexual abuse of children (including historical abuse) and parental alienation. She has both successfully proven, and achieved the dismissal of, multiple serious allegations.

She has represented parties in financial remedy proceedings successfully negotiating favourable settlements and achieving favourable outcomes through incisive cross-examination and advocacy. She has advanced financial and litigation misconduct arguments on behalf of clients and has acted in matters involving allegations of non-disclosure of assets and international elements.

Loretta is a tenacious advocate and has a natural ability to put clients at ease with pragmatic advice. She shows a keen attention to detail and can identify and focus on the salient issues robustly arguing and protecting her client’s position.

Loretta regularly provides pro bono legal advice via Temple Legal Centre.

In the 11 years prior to joining Chambers, alongside a busy practice as a civil advocate where she accepted instructions in a broad range of areas including lender services, debt recovery and enforcement, civil litigation, insolvency, Consumer Credit Act litigation, personal injury and property, Loretta established and operated a successful hospitality business. She is married with two children and her professional and business background brings a broad legal and commercial knowledge to the table which compliments her empathic approach to the complex family dynamics which underpin family proceedings.

She has a working knowledge of French and an excellent command of Italian.
